The Ultimate Splat Mix Tape- Christmas Edition
Today, we typed in Christmas into iTunes and realized that we have HUNDREDS of songs to choose from…and it got us thinking…what would be the ULTIMATE Christmas Mix Tape.
I’m going to do 12-15 songs…
The Closing Track will be “Merry Christmas From The Family” by Robert Earl Keen
Any other suggestions?

My choice is Marshmallow World -Dean Matrin, it’s charming and yet odd to hear him sing.
This a quote from Hi Fidelity (the Book), it’s great:
“To me, making a tape is like writing a letter. There’s a lot of erasing and rethinking and starting again. A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do. You’ve got to kick off with a corker, to hold the attention (I started with “Got to Get You Off My Mind,” but then realized that she might not get any further than track one, side one if I delivered what she wanted straightaway, so I buried it in the middle of side two), and then you’ve got to up it a notch, or cool it a notch, and you can’t have white music and black music together, unless the white music sounds like black music, and you can’t have two tracks by the same artist side by side, unless you’ve done the whole thing in pairs and…oh, there are loads of rules.”

Nice, adding Robert Earl Keen.
My Christmas songs are…in no particular order:
Baby It’s Cold Outside (nice duet)
Christmas is all around me (From Love Actually)
Santa Clause is Coming to Town (the Boss’ version)
Have yourself a merry little christmas (Bing)
Where are you christmas (Faith hill)
White christmas (Burl Ives)
Carol of the bells (I think the transiberian orchestra version)
Sure do love them christmas cookies sugar (George strait)
Jingle bell rock (Burl Ives…i think)
Please, come home for christmas (eagles)
O, Holy Night (Mariah or Martina McBride…or the really awful version)
Run, run rudolph (Chuck berry…or Johnny Smash)
Let it be Christmas (Alan Jackson)
That;s my fave’s

There’s actually a Jeremy Horn Christmas song floating around on one of my cd’s I dont think he ever let anyone hear it (I might be wrong), but it got put on one of my demo CDs when I recorded a Johnny Smash song in the CTRMC studio, i think it was already on the track or something. That would be a classic if I could find it.

And I’ll keep making comments…thank you very much…
Do you have “Christmas in Dixie” by Alabama, that song is amazing, I miss hearing it since we aren’t in the south.

There need to be more comments than this:
Another song I like…
“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” – Otis Redding
“All I want for Christmas is You”-the love actually version with the actual girl from Love Actually singing it. Not the Mariah Carrey version.
“Santa Claus is back in town” – Elvis
I saw where B.B. did a version of “Please come home for christmas,” even though I didn’t hear it, that just seems so cool.
“Santa’s Beard” – Beach Boys

I’m an old school guy…
White Christmas – Bing Crosby
Christmas Song – Nat King Cole
I’ll be home For Christmas – ???
Nothing by Mariah Carey for me, please!
Any song by Burl Ives
…and I second “Baby It’s Cold Outside” (the Elf version, of course) and “Christmas in Dixie”

I like all the oldies…except the little drummer boy song…although I think it does have a good message, the pa rum pa bum bum’s are just too much for my enjoyment.

well…the song I’ve been singing since July is “Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland”…so that’s my suggestion…wishful thinking in AZ though!
And btw…Daniel, you are hilarious!

Bing Crosby singing “White Christmas” is amazing. I love the song “Breath of Heaven”. I also like the song from Messiah with the Hallelujah Chorus (is that what it’s called?). “Sleigh Ride” the Errin version is timeless. And who can forget “Feliz Navidad”?

I heard a song recently that was pretty amazing.

We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.
